Nepali judokas have made the country proud by winning a total of 10 medals, including five gold, at the BKSP Cup Invitational International Judo Championship held in Bangladesh.
Nepal finished second overall in the championship, bringing home one silver and four bronze medals in addition to the golds. The standout performers came from the Prisoners Assistance Mission (PAM), whose five-member team clinched four gold medals and one bronze, with every PAM athlete earning a medal.
In total, 12 athletes represented Nepal in the tournament. Among the top gold medalists were Sabin Kumar Diyali (men’s under 60 kg) and Bishesh BK (men’s under 66 kg). In the women's categories, gold medals went to Nisha Shrestha (under 45 kg), Binita Nepali (under 52 kg), and Pemba Yangji Sherpa (under 57 kg) - all from the PAM team.
Riwaj Lama Tamang won Nepal’s silver medal in the men’s under 45 kg category. Bronze medals went to Buddha Gurung (men’s under 55 kg), Bigyan Khattri (under 73 kg), Samita Nepali (women’s under 44 kg), and Rekha Shrestha (under 63 kg).
Coaches Radha Devi Rai and Laxmi Tamang led the Nepali contingent, with Rai also serving as a referee during the competition. “We’re extremely proud of our athletes’ performance,” said Deepak Harsha Bajracharya, President of the Nepal Judo Association.
The host team, BKSP of Bangladesh, emerged as overall champions, securing six gold, eight silver, and 10 bronze medals.
