Adverse weather conditions triggered by ongoing rainfall disrupted flight operations at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and several other airports across the country today.
According to TIA spokesperson Rinji Sherpa, both domestic and international flights were affected due to low visibility, resulting in multiple delays and diversions. "Flight schedules could not proceed as planned throughout the day," Sherpa said.
Among the affected flights, an Air Jazeera international service was diverted to Varanasi, India, while Buddha Air’s scheduled mountain flight also had to be rerouted. Additionally, three flights operated by Summit Air and Tara Air—en route to Lukla from Ramechhap—were redirected, and a Kathmandu–Thamkharka flight was also diverted due to poor weather conditions.
The Kathmandu Valley experienced light rainfall from early morning, which contributed to the disruptions. Conditions have since improved as the rain subsided.
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology reported that Nepal’s current unstable weather is being caused by a combination of westerly and local winds, along with moisture-laden air entering from the Bay of Bengal.
