Twelve health workers at District Hospital, Salle, working under a scholarship contract, have not received their salaries for the past six months. They say they haven’t been paid since November 2024.
According to Tek Bahadur Kusari, Chairperson of the Hospital Development Committee, the issue arose because the hospital has not received any budget since November. The Department of Health usually sends the budget through the Social Development Ministry of Karnali Province, but this hasn’t happened despite repeated follow-ups.
Seven medical officers, two dental surgeons, and three public health officers are among the affected health workers. They have raised the issue with the District Hospital, Social Development Office, District Administration Office, Chief Minister’s Office, Ministry of Health and Population, and Department of Health.
In protest, they have stopped all health services except emergency care, and the shutdown will continue indefinitely.
