  • Sri Lankan Customs Revenue Tops $4 Billion in First Seven Months of 2025

Sri Lanka Customs collected over 1.2 trillion rupees (approximately 4 billion U.S. dollars) in revenue during the first seven months of 2025, a senior official announced on Saturday.

Customs spokesperson Seevali Arukgoda stated that the department recorded its highest-ever monthly revenue in July, earning 231 billion rupees (approximately $ 770 million U.S.), largely driven by taxes on vehicle imports.

According to Arukgoda, customs generated nearly 300 billion rupees (approximately $ 1 billion) from duties on over 28,000 imported vehicles.

The government has set a revenue target of 2.115 trillion rupees for customs in 2025. As of the end of July, the department has surpassed its scheduled collection target by 116 billion rupees, Arukgoda added.
