The Swiss National Day was celebrated in Kathmandu on Friday with a special event hosted by the Nepal-Swiss Chamber of Commerce and Industries (NSCCI), bringing together dignitaries, diplomats, business leaders, and members of the Nepal-Swiss community.
The celebration highlighted the longstanding friendship and strong diplomatic ties between Nepal and Switzerland, which date back nearly seven decades.
Speaking at the event, Matthias Meier, Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of Switzerland in Nepal, reflected on the recent visit of Swiss Foreign Minister Dr. Ignazio Cassis to Nepal. The visit, he noted, reaffirmed 69 years of meaningful diplomatic relations and helped pave the way for the 70th anniversary celebration in 2026.
NSCCI President Khem Lakai emphasized the depth of economic, cultural, and social ties that have developed over decades. He remarked that the approaching 70th anniversary would be a milestone reflecting a legacy of mutual respect, cooperation, and partnership.
Also addressing the gathering, Rewant Prasad Dhaubhadel, President of the Nepal Swiss Friendship Society, underscored the importance of deepening people-to-people connections and maintaining momentum through continuous engagement.
The event served as a platform for NSCCI members, Swiss alumni, business professionals, and guests to share experiences and explore potential areas for future collaboration.
According to NSCCI, this year’s celebration was not only a tribute to Switzerland’s national heritage but also a testament to the enduring and evolving partnership between Nepal and Switzerland. The presence of key diplomatic representatives and industry leaders further underlined the commitment to strengthening ties across business, culture, and friendship.
