More than 1,500 Afghan refugee families returned to Afghanistan from neighboring Iran and Pakistan in a single day, the state-owned Bakhtar News Agency reported on Sunday.
According to the report, a total of 1,576 families returned to their homeland on Saturday, with 81 families arriving from Pakistan and 1,495 from Iran.
The agency stated that all returnees received necessary assistance at the respective border crossings upon arrival.
The pace of return has accelerated in recent months, as both Iran and Pakistan have ramped up efforts to repatriate undocumented Afghan migrants, urging them to leave voluntarily or face deportation.
Over the past year, more than 1.3 million Afghan refugees have returned to Afghanistan, with an estimated 600,000 returning from Iran in June alone, according to official data.
The ongoing returns reflect the mounting pressure on host countries and the continued uncertainty facing Afghan migrants abroad.
