Nepal exported tea worth Rs 3.57 billion by April 13 of the current fiscal year 2024/25, which began on July 16, 2024, according to the National Tea and Coffee Development Board.
The Board expects total tea exports to reach Rs 4.5 billion by the end of the fiscal year. Board official Chandra Puri shared that Nepal’s tea sector has created about 60,000 jobs, with 171 tea estates and 120 small and medium tea processing centers operating across the country.
Tea cultivation spanned 20,760 hectares of land during the fiscal year 2023/24, producing 27 million kilograms of processed tea. Nepal currently has 15,203 tea farmers, Puri informed. In the previous fiscal year, Nepal had exported 16.5 million kilograms of tea worth Rs 3.63 billion.
Meanwhile, to mark the 29th National Tea Day, the Board is hosting a tea exhibition today at Harihar Bhawan in Pulchowk. The exhibition aims to promote Nepali tea in the international market and will bring together tea farmers, workers, cooperatives, entrepreneurs, businesspersons, and representatives of concerned organizations for discussions.
This year’s National Tea Day is being celebrated under the theme: "Healthy Tea, Sustainable Market, Foundation of Prosperous Nepal."
