UML Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli held a one-on-one meeting with former President Bidya Devi Bhandari at the party's central office in Lalitpur today. The meeting took place on the eve of the UML Central Committee meeting.
Following the meeting, Bhandari briefly interacted with journalists and confirmed that the discussion focused on current national political issues. "I only held talks regarding national politics with him," she stated. "You will learn about other matters through the party’s official channel," she added.
Bhandari also revealed that she has already renewed her membership in the UML party.
This marks her first visit to the UML’s central office since stepping down as Head of State. She was welcomed by UML Vice-President Surendra Pandey and Dr. Bhisma Adhikari, Secretary at the party’s central office. The meeting lasted approximately one and a half hours.
It is worth noting that Bhandari, a former Vice-Chairperson of the UML, has officially announced her return to active politics. Her re-entry has sparked considerable debate within the party. While some party members support her comeback, the majority of politburo members in a meeting held yesterday expressed opposition. They argued that a former President, having held such a high constitutional position, should refrain from re-engaging in active politics.
Bhandari’s return and its implications were key discussion points during recent UML Secretariat and Politburo meetings and were also addressed during today’s meeting with Chairman Oli.
